Parts of the x-ray in the centre are difficult to read due to the cradle (a wooden structural support) on the reverse of the panel, but it clearly shows that the puffs extending from the bottom of the red sleeves have been extended. Underdrawing can be seen in normal light, and in the infrared reflectogram on the right. It is free and sketchy, which suggests that the aim was to give only an indication of the placing of the composition. Various pentimenti are evident; for example, in the hairline, the nose, the lower necklace, the cuffs and the hands.
