The major repairs to paint losses can be seen in both the x-ray image in the centre and the infrared reflectogram on the right. The x-ray also shows the softly blended brushwork in the face and the more broadly applied highlights in the costume. The underdrawing seen in the infrared reflectogram has been applied in a free and loose manner, with a variety of marks. The eyes were originally positioned slightly higher up the face and looked out at the viewer; the position of the nose has also been slightly changed.
