Scattered areas of restoration can be seen in the right-hand image, taken in ultra violet light. The central x-ray also shows numerous small losses in the face and reveals a change to the shape or position of the nose. The wood grain is clearly visible, and the lines are uneven to the right of the knot. It is not clear whether the two small shapes visible in the lower-right section of the x-ray were part of the original composition, or if they were present on the paper before any other paint layers were applied.
