Beningbrough Hall, York

Beatrix Potter
by Delmar Banner
1938
NPG 3635

Highlights from the Collection have been selected by the Director Dr Nicholas Cullinan to celebrate the longstanding partnership between the Gallery and the National Trust at Beningbrough. Significant portraits have been chosen to represent four different periods of the hall’s history. The paintings have particular links to Yorkshire and the National Trust with portraits of the ‘Queen of the Bluestockings’, Elizabeth Montagu, Poet Laureate Ted Hughes and the children’s author, farmer and benefactor of the National Trust, Beatrix Potter. The display is brought up to date with Nadav Kander’s dramatic photograph of sporting icon David Beckham. This display forms part of the hall’s property-wide exhibition Short Stories and Untold Tales.
