About the Collection

Explore over 200,000 portraits from the 16th Century to the present day in a wide variety of different mediums. These include drawings, miniatures, negatives, paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures and many more.

Primary Collection

A Collection of 11,000 portraits, of which about 4,000 are paintings, sculptures and miniatures, and 7,000 light-sensitive works on paper.

Photographs Collection

A Collection of more than 220,000 original photographic images, of which at least 130,000 are original negatives.

Reference Collection

A Collection of 80,000 portraits, mainly prints, but also a body of drawings and a smaller body of paintings and sculptures.
