Letter from Thomas Carlyle to George Frederic Watts, dated 1 July 1868, regarding sitting to the artist.
Chelsea, 1 July, 1868
Unexpectedly I find I shall have to go to Scotland in about 10 days, and (illegible) there I know not yet how long.
If you do want me again, therefore, let it be within that time, fairly within. I am anxious to neglect nothing for perfection of our mutual enterprise, in which I see
in you such excellent desire after excellence; and shall be ready, within the prescribed limits and terms, anytime at a day's notice.
Yours always truly,
