Handwritten memo, dated 26 October 1923, stating that one of the floor polishers at the National Portrait Gallery had slipped and knocked the head off the bust.
Memo

26th October, 1923

I beg to report at 7.40am, 26th inst. as A.J. Bartlett, floor-polisher, was working in the East Wing (27 Room) he slipped and in falling the handle of his scrubber knocked off the head of the bust of George Cruikshank which was smashed on the floor.
