Letter from William Godwin to William Brockedon, dated 4 September 1832, stating that he never met Oliver Goldsmith and telling him what he knows of Mr Prior. |

My dear sir I feel myself flattered by this application to me respecting the biography of Goldsmith. I never saw him, being just eighteen years of age at the time of his death. Allow me also to observe that I know almost as much of Mr Prior as I have the pleasure to do of you, having seen him nearly the same number of times. I happened to be present at his interview with Northcote, & then & since put myself forward to give him all the information I could. |
