Aquatint

Print produced by a method related to etching, with a wash effect similar to that of a watercolour painting. The plate used is covered in a powdered resin and is put into acid, which bites between the grains to give a finely granulated surface. The design is then drawn on and areas stopped-out with varnish to vary the tone and a print taken.
