Georgian poets

Georgian Poets was a series of 5 anthologies published between 1911 and 1922 by Harold Edward Monro, to showcase the work of British poets in the early 20th century. Edited by Edward Marsh, who had recently opened 'The Poetry Bookshop' in Bloomsbury, the title of the anthologies reflected the accession of George V and a new, poetic age. Monro, Marsh and many of the poets were motivated by the desire to make poetry more accessible to the wider public. With a lyrical and romantic view, many poets looked to the countryside for inspiration and material. Despite their progressive aspirations, many of the poets associated with the group were still working within the confines of the Victorian era and later became associated with a romantic conservatism.
