Early Victorian Arts
Room 24One of the innovative display techniques employed for the Victorian and 20th Century Galleries remodelled by Piers Gough in 1996, was the hanging of portraits at projected angles from the wall, creating a zig-zag pattern, allowing pairs of portraits to be seen together. In this room the companion portraits of Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning are brought together in this way. The room also includes the triple portrait of the Brontë sisters. The wallcase running the length of the room is devoted to smaller portraits and special displays, currently on Alfred Chalon at the Opera.
