Anne of Denmark (1574-1619), Queen of James I
Sitter associated with 43 portraits
The daughter of Frederick II of Denmark, Anne married James VI of Scotland in 1589, and bore seven children, three of whom survived to adulthood: Henry, Elizabeth and Charles. After James's succession to the English throne in 1603, Anne made an important contribution to the social and cultural life at court, particularly by commissioning and performing masques and in collecting art, especially portraiture.
