In 1839 Anne married the second Lord Glenlyon, thereby becoming Lady Glenlyon. In 1846 he succeeded his uncle as sixth Duke of Atholl, and she became Duchess of Atholl. She was one of Queen Victoria's closest friends, serving the Queen firstly as Mistress of the Robes and subsequently as Lady of the Bedchamber for almost forty years.
