Sitter in 7 portraits
Bathurst was Secretary for War and the Colonies in Lord Liverpool's government, 1812-27, and Lord President of the Council in Wellington's, 1828-30. He was an efficient and industrious minister who gave great support to Wellington across a range of military issues, even sending him on one occasion a box of shoes with false soles 'for conveying written intelligence in an unsuspected manner'.
