David Garshen Bomberg

Artist; served with the Royal Engineers in France from 1915. Mud-Bath and In The Hold (Tate Gallery) are among the best-known of his pre-War paintings and recognised as masterpieces of the Vorticist movement. His later works are landscapes and portraits in a freely expressionist style, often painted on his travels in Europe and the Near East.
