James Thomas Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan (1797-1868), General
Sitter in 10 portraits
General, bought his way into various commands, his domineering manner causing perpetual quarrels with his fellow officers. Cardigan is best remembered for leading the charge of the light brigade in the Crimea when, owing to the misunderstanding of a crucial order, the brigade charged the wrong guns at the battle of Balaclava and was decimated.
