Catherine Parr (1512-1548), Sixth Queen of Henry VIII
Sitter associated with 9 portraits
Henry VIII's sixth and last wife was a learned and pious woman who had a moderating influence on the ageing king. Catherine showed great kindness to the king's children by his earlier marriages (Mary, Elizabeth and Edward), and tried to diminish religious persecution. After Henry's death she married Thomas Seymour, Baron Seymour of Sudeley, but she died a year later, shortly after giving birth to a daughter.
