George Cave was born on 23 February 1856 at 67 Cheapside.
He was educated at a school in Normandy from the age of 10 to 13.
On 6 January 1885 he married Ann Estella Sarah Penfold Mathews, daughter of Capt. William Withey Mathews and Jane Wallas Penfold. They wed at All Saints Church, Margaret Street, London.
Estella's mother and aunts were all artists, and one was Augusta Jane Penfold.
George died at St. Ann's, Burnham-on-Sea (his home) on 29 March 1928.
