Edward Morgan Forster

Sitter in 40 portraits
Novelist, short story writer and essayist. A comic moralist in the tradition of Jane Austen, in works such as A Room with a View (1908), Howards End (1910) and A Passage to India (1924), Forster tackled taboo issues of class and race. These works established Forster's reputation as an important literary figure although his homosexual novel, Maurice, written in 1914, was not published until 1971.
