William Henry Hunt was apprenticed to John Varley in about 1804. He then attended Dr Thomas Monro's Academy, and in 1808 Hunt began studying at the Royal Academy Schools, London. Although he exhibited sporadically with the Society of Painters in Watercolours from 1814, he did not become an associate until 1824. He became a full member in 1826.
