Sitter in 34 portraits
Dean of St Paul's (1911-34) and popular preacher and writer. Dean Inge was known as 'The Gloomy Dean' because of his weekly Evening Standard articles (1921-46) which frequently attacked over-optimistic popular opinion. From 1926 to 1951 he served as a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery.
