Garden designer and writer. As a young woman Jekyll absorbed the principles of the Arts and Crafts movement and worked as a painter, embroiderer and interior designer;. She turned to gardening and garden design after 1891, to which she brought an artist's eye, combined with deep knowledge as a plantswoman. She designed more than three hundred gardens and her writings further made her a crucial influence on modern gardening.
