Sitter in 7 portraits
Journalist; born in Kelso; settled in London, 1806, where he wrote prolifically on politics and travel, and where he worked on various newspapers. He became editor of the high Tory Sun newspaper, 1813-17, and established the Literary Gazette, 1817. He also published numerous other works, wrote perodically for Fraser's Magazine and took an active part in the Royal Literary Fund.
