Princess Margaret
(1930-2002), Daughter of George VI; Countess of SnowdonSitter associated with 293 portraits
The second daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. Began carrying out public engagements, often with her sister, soon after the Second World War. As leader of the 'Princess Margaret set' she was known for her striking beauty that, combined with her fashion sense, made her a style icon for the 1950s and early 1960s. Married the photographer Antony Armstrong Jones, Earl of Snowdon in 1960. They had two children, Viscount Linley and Lady Sarah Chatto. The marriage was dissolved in 1978. Acted for many years as an active patron of numerous charities and was President of the Royal Ballet.
