Cyril Louis Norton Newall, 1st Baron Newall
(1886-1963), Air force officerSitter in 12 portraits
Marshal of the Royal Air Force. Newall joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1914 and served throughout the First World War. He commanded the RAF in the Middle East (1931-4) and was Chief of Air Staff (1937-40). He subsequently served as Governor-General of New Zealand (1941-6).
