Robert Malise Bowyer Nichols (1893-1944), Poet

Poet and playwright. Commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery in 1914, Nichols served on the Western Front until invalided home with shell-shock in August 1916. His reputation as a war poet rests mainly on the poems in Ardours and Endurances (1917). He later enjoyed success in America with a play, Wings over Europe (1928).
