Sitter associated with 53 portraits
Daughter of the industrialist and politician Sir Charles Tennant, a popular figure in society Margaret was acquainted with many of the leading politicians and thinkers of the day. In 1894 she married the future Prime Minister Herbert Asquith as his second wife. She was outspoken in her opinions and a strong supporter of the Liberal Party. Fiercely loyal towards her husband, she discussed his political decisions with him throughout his career until he appointed Lloyd George as War Secretary in 1916 against her advice. When Herbert Asquith died in 1928, Margot fell into financial difficulty, and took to writing her memoirs as a source of income.
