Statesman and twice Prime Minister. His first ministry, though only lasting thirteen months in 1765-6, was responsible for the repeal of the controversial Stamp Tax placed on the American colonies. Rockingham later supported proposals to grant the colonies independence. His second ministry in 1782 saw Ireland granted its own Parliament and the Royal household curtailed.
