James Wyatt

(1746-1813), Architect

Regency Portraits Catalogue Entry

Sitter in 7 portraits
Wyatt was one of the most fashionable architects of the late eighteenth century with a huge practice and many official appointments. A brilliant and eclectic designer, he was equally at home with classical and gothic design. He made his name in 1772 with the neo-classical Pantheon in Oxford Street and later built William Beckford's gothic fantasy at Fonthill.
