Young acted in Liverpool, Manchester and Edinburgh in a variety of roles before appearing as Hamlet at the Haymarket Theatre in London in 1807. Excellent in both tragedy and comedy, he acted with Sarah Siddons and Edmund Kean. He retired with the wish to be remembered at his best.
