Sir Edward Heath

Prime Minister between 1970 and 1974. Heath was leader of the Conservative Party from 1965, and MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup. As Prime Minister, he was largely responsible for Britain's entry into the European Community (EEC); he was succeeded in the leadership by Margaret Thatcher and remained an active backbencher.
