Sir Alec Issigonis (1906-1988), Engineer
Sitter in 4 portraits
Issigonis designed the most enduring small cars of the twentieth century, the Morris Minor (1948) and the Mini (1959)- a testament to his insistence that 'styled' cars dated quickly. Born in Turkey, Issigonis come to England as a teenager. He became the engineering director of the British Motor Corporation in 1964, and was knighted for services to automotive engineering.
