Sir Joseph Paxton
(1803-1865), Gardener and architectSitter in 6 portraits
Chief gardener to the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth; designed and erected the greenhouses there, which formed the inspiration for his Crystal Palace design for the Great Exhibition of 1851; became an MP, an able man of business, and much in demand as an architect.
