Sir Aaron Klug

Molecular biologist; born in South Africa, Klug settled in England in 1949 and worked in Cambridge and at Birkbeck College, London University; President of the Royal Society (1995-2000). His research included work on viruses, on the structure and action of transfer RNA in animal cells and on chromatin in cells; he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1982.
