Lady Charlotte Finch was appointed governess to George III's children after the birth of George, Prince of Wales, in 1762. She held the post for thirty years and was admired as a gentle woman of strict religious views. In 1744, her mother Lady Pomfret recorded going with Charlotte 'to set for her portrait'.
