Stage and film actor. O'Toole made his professional debut in The Matchmaker (1955) and his screen debut in Kidnapped (1959). His performance in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) made him an international star. Acclaimed stage performances include productions such as Waiting for Godot (1971) and Uncle Vanya (1978). Films include Goodbye Mr Chips (1969), The Ruling Class (1972), My Favourite Year (1982) and The Last Emperor (1987). Has published two autobiographies Loitering with Intent (1992) and The Apprentice (1996).
