Michael Arlen
(1895-1956), NovelistSitter in 16 portraits
Novelist of Armenian descent; published his first novel, The London Venture (1922) with the help of Sir Edmund Gosse; his bestseller, The Green Hat (1924), the story of a Mayfair femme fatale, made him a millionaire; further novels and collections of short stories included These Charming People (1925), Lily Christine (1929), Hell! said the Duchess (1934) and Flying Dutchman (1939).
