Ceramic designer; in 1929 set up her own company, whose motto, 'elegance combined with utility', was the basis of long-lasting commercial success. Known popularly for her 'art deco' designs, in the industry she was acknowledged for generally improving standards of lithographic transfer decoration. In 1940 she became only the second woman to be created a Royal Designer for Industry.
