William Lane (1746-1819)

William Lane began his career as an engraver of gems, exhibiting his work at the Royal Academy from 1778 to 1789. He later became an established and successful artist in crayon. Between 1798 and 1815 Lane exhibited a further forty-four portraits at the Royal Academy.
