Pierre Mignard

Pierre Mignard studied under Simon Vouet, after which he spent some twenty years working as a painter in Italy. Returning to France in 1657, he built a successful portrait practice, painting many of the celebrities and court members of the day. In 1690, he succeeded Le Brun as the director of the Academie Royale and became the first painter to the king.
