Emma Sergeant has become renowned for her surrealist portraits and figurative paintings. She shot to international prominence when, as a twenty-one year old student, she won the National Portrait Gallery Prize. Since then she has painted Sir Laurence Olivier, Imran Khan, and Jeremy Paxman.
