Fred Daniels

Artist of 88 portraits
One of the first British film-stills photographers, working on films such as George Leyton's Lady Godiva (1927) before being recruited by director E.A. Dupont, to work on Piccadilly (1929) and Atlantic (1930). Later collaborated with Herbert Wilcox on films including Victoria the Great (1937) starring Anna Neagle. In 1941, Daniels met Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger and worked on many of The Archers key films including 49th Parallel 1941, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943), A Canterbury Tale (1944), A Matter of Life and Death (1946) and Black Narcissus (1947). Daniels photographs of the dancer Margaret Morris, were published in Margaret Morris Dancing (1925).
