Starting his career in 1928, Russell Westwood first came to prominence as Head of Stills Photography at Warner Brothers' First National Film Production at Teddington Studios. There he made alluring and glamorous images of early British film stars such as Chili Bouchier, Greta Gynt, Hugh Williams and Max Miller. He also photographed Errol Flynn in Murder at Monte Carlo (1934), the star's first major role and his entry to a Hollywood career. In the late 1940s Westwood joined the staff of Weekly Illustrated, regularly taking cover pictures and features in colour as well as black and white.
