Edward Lyddell Sawyer (1856-1927)

Artist associated with 10 portraits
At the age of sixteen Sawyer was responsible for the work of a busy and important photography studio in Newcastle. He had previously had experience in operating other of the family's branches; his father was a portrait painter and designer as well as a photographer. In 1885 he set up his own business in Newcastle and was joined by his two brothers. Ten years later he opened a portrait studio on Regent Street, London. His greatest interest was always in the art of photography rather than its commercial aspects.
