A leading figure in the burgeoning pottery industry, Turner made his early reputation as a chemist and a designer before becoming the owner of the Salopian China Warehouse at Caughley, Shropshire. He is noted for introducing a number of popular blue-and-white china patterns to England, including the 'Willow Pattern'.
