Wilfrid Newton (sometimes spelled Wilfred Newton) worked at Denham Studios during the 1940s, and photographed stills for the two big
British films: Henry V and Caesar and Cleopatra. It has been difficult to learn about his professional and private life. My interest is in his still photographs of the sets for Caesar and Cleopatra designed by John Bryan who died in 1969.

Wilfred Newton is a distant relation of mine. My father and his cousin used to talk about him. I have one photograph of his of Humphrey Bogart. The story goes that he was summoned to Pinewood studios to take the photo, but was concerned that the finished product showed his very lined face. On presenting the photo to Mr Bogart, he liked it as it made him look mean and nasty! I believe his studio was in the West End, possibly Regent St

I have been lucky enough to buy Wilfrid Newton's final shooting copy of the script for Caesar and Cleopatra. I often wonder if it is his signature inside. I would love to know what happened to him after the 1940s.
