Neuroscientist, writer and broadcaster, Greenfield was the first woman director of the Royal Institution, and is a Senior Research Fellow at Lincoln College, Oxford. Her area of specialisation is the brain, and she is also active in popularising scientific ideas. Author of Journey to the Centres of the Mind (1995), The Private Life of the Brain (2000) and ID: The Quest for identity in the 21st Century (2008). Greenfield received the Michael Faraday Medal from the Royal Society in 1998, and was awarded a Life Peerage in 2001.
