Her area of specialisation is the brain and she is also active in popularising scientific ideas; editor of The Human Mind Explained (1996) and author (with G. Ferry) of Journey to the Centers of the Brain (1994), and of Journey to the Centers of the Mind (1995) and The Human Brain: a guided tour (1997); The Private Life of the Brain (2000) and Tomorrow's People (2003).
