Illa was my aunt, my father’s eldest sister. There were 5 children and their mother required them to learn a craft. She was born in Vienna Austria. Illa was a corsetier, my dad was a leather goods designer. She was married to the ambassador to Czechoslovakia. When the the nazis invaded, she and her husband fled to England. She befriended many of the impressionist artists and had a great collection of modern art ultimately donated to the Tate or the boys club of England.
