Jones is the son of film and television actor, Freddie Jones. In 2001 Jones appeared in The Play What I Wrote, a stage celebration of comedians Morecambe and Wise. He was awarded the Olivier Theatre Award for Best Supporting Actor (2002) and later reprised his role on Broadway. Jones is best known for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in the film Infamous (2006). He also appeared in The Painted Veil (2006) adapted from the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, Frost/Nixon (2008) and W. (2008).
