Dame Mitsuko Uchida

Japanese-born Uchida is an acclaimed classical pianist and conductor. At the age of 12, she moved to Vienna, Austria, with her parents following her father's appointment as Japanese ambassador to Austria. At 14 years old she gave her first Viennese recital at the prestigious Vienna Musikverein. She has performed with many of the world's foremost orchestras, recorded with major labels, won numerous accolades and honours, and has since 2013 been Artistic Director of the Marlboro Music School and Festival. In 2009 she was made a Dame of the British Empire (DBE). In recent years, she has also conducted major orchestras and is deeply committed to supporting the development of young musicians. http://www.mitsukouchida.com/
